My Favorite Indonesian Food: Healthy Eating Diet
by Hans Malvin on October 22, 2025
Welcome again everybody, today i will share to you guys about the best and probably my top 3 or even my favorite go to food to go on a diet. And the food is none other than Indonesian's most popular food the satay dish. The reason why i choose this one is because the dish got some protein in it and it usually covers all of the need on a single meal. But the only downside on this is the sauce on it got some extra calorie in it and i do not really like it, and sometimes i set aside those things.
Because on this week's theme is Indonesian food to go on a healthy diet i choose the food or dish that did not have to do with oil cooking. And satay dish uses grill technique so it did not have any extra calorie, because as you all know when dieting we do not want to have any additional calorie from whatever it is. So yeah, this is usually my go to food when i want to have a meal or sometimes i eat it as a snack because it did not pack much.
The reason why i chose this dish over anything else to share with is because not only this dish is one of most renowned dish in Indonesian culture it is also because this satay dish has been my favorite from when i was a kid. I always like this satay dish because of course it uses chicken meat and it has a lot of protein in it so then again it helps with my diet to fulfill my daily need of protein. And also the price on buying this dish is not pricey so i like it. Well, the price range can be varied because it depends on where you buy it, if you buy it at a restaurant like sate senayan then its expensive. But i always buy it from local seller, so the price will definitely much cheaper.
And almost everywhere you can see that there are always someone that sells this dish, like on the side street or sometimes if you are on the neighborhood area there always some satay dish seller that goes around to sell the dish using like a cart. But although its my favorite dish if you want to have a change of meal when dieting its not recommended by me if you eat it everyday, because the they make it is using charcoal when making it and the burned area are not good for your health if you eat it everyday.
But those things did not stop me to always go for it when i feel like it. Well now enough of that, lets talk about my experience about the dish. First, the satay dish usually have different taste based on the region or heritage cooking style. Some have sweeter taste and rough texture, but some have more mild taste but smoother taste. Everything depends on how they make the sauce, but usually if you go to a restaurant the sauce taste usually sweeter and more smoother than the locals seller on a cart.
Basically this satay dish is almost the same as other dish, like for example the yakitori dish from Japan, but the sole key difference is in the sauce. The satay Indonesian dish uses peanuts to enhance the texture on the sauce making it more flavorful, and this is why i like Indonesia style chicken meat grilled dish. It suits me more, and probably because that i grew up eating this satay dish. But nonetheless its a dish i recommend for you to eat or try it. And if you like it, it can become one of the many choices diet meal from Indonesian culture food.
And yeah, this is it for this week's blog about our new theme that i plan will be going on for about 3 to 4 weeks, and if you guys have some question about anything or my preferences about other Indonesian food to go on a diet you can ask me on the comment section.
Thanks all, See you next Week.
